About You 

We are looking for a detail-oriented copy editor to support our in-house and freelance writers. The right candidate must be comfortable working on deadline, exceedingly responsive by email, and possess the utmost attention to detail. He or she is a creative problem solver, a fast (and accurate) writer and editor, and a seasoned researcher. We may need you to occasionally write and publish, and your writing needs to fit with our fun-loving voice!

Candidates who have experience writing and editing entertainment and editorial copy are preferred. This commitment has the potential to grow and expand based on performance. The person will report to the Senior Copy Editor and will work Wednesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

 

Responsibilities

  • Write and copyedit all editorial content, specifically articles containing 250 words
  • Copy edit a minimum of 8-10 articles per hour with flawless attention to detail
  • Publish content on site with flawless headlines with no grammatical mistakes or glaring factual errors
  • Take editorial direction and be able to adapt quickly to feedback
  • Have a basic understanding of Wordpress, be able to upload a fresh image should Deputy Editor or Content Editor request one
  • Additionally, you may be responsible for supervising 1-2 freelance copy editors who will help to tackle heavy workloads

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of professional copyediting experience
  • BA in English, writing, or journalism, or equivalent experience
  • Impeccable attention to detail and understanding of subtleties within the language
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage workloads effectively
  • Basic knowledge of lifestyle categories – animals, babies, DIY
